Jan Van De Plassche was born in Sint-Laureins, Oost Vlaanderen, Belgium on 25 April 1739[i] and baptized the same day. He was the son of Petrus and Joanna Maria (De Meyer) Van De Plassche. He died on 1 November 1794[ii]. He married on 21 May 1770[iii] in Sint Laureins, Joanne Livina Sierens, born 14 April 1746[iv] in Sint-Laureins. She was the daughter of Joseph and Cornelia (Busschaert) Sierens.

Jan and Joanna lost two children on 20 October 1794, Angelina age 19 and Jan Francis age 11. Jan himself died less than 2 weeks later. This suggests that there was an epidemic during this period in Sint Laureins.

I had trouble finding a baptism for Joanne. She wasn’t listed under Sierens or Syrens or Syerens. All the baptisms of her children stated that she was from Sint Laureins and born between 1742 and 1747. So I started looking entry by entry in 1747 and had no luck. I looked ahead into 1748 without luck and decided to go backward and look in 1746. I found her there. Her father’s name was spelled with a “C” instead of an “S”. I have no idea where her parents originated. Neither one is listed in the baptismal index for Sint Laureins.  When Joanne was baptized the parish priests were not recording where the parents came from (i.e. where they were baptized).

i.                    Joanna Theresia Van De Plassche, b. 1 April 1771 and bap. the same day.

ii.                  Maria Cornelia Van De Plassche, b. and bap. on 3 September 1772.

iii.                Angelina Van De Plassche, b. and bap. on 15 November 1774 and d. 20 October 1794.

iv.                Carolina Francisca Van De Plassche b. and bap. on 25 October 1776. She m. on 28 Jan 1799  Jan Baptista Hijfte.

v.                  Petrus Jacobus Van De Plassche, b. 11 July 1778 and bap. the next day. He died sometime in 1778.

vi.                Petronella Theresia Van De Plassche, b. and bap. 10 September 1779. She d. on 1 January 1783.

vii.              Petrus Jacobus Van De Plassche, b. 25 September 1781 and bap. the following day.

viii.            Jan Francis Van De Plassche, b. 18 October 1783 and bap. the next day. He d. 20 October 1794.

ix.                Isabella Theresia Van De Plassche, b. and bap. on 13 January 1786. She d. on 21 January 1850 in Kaprijke, Oost Vlaanderen, Belgium. She m. on 7 February 1806 in Kaprijke Jan Francis Dobbelaere, b. 19 February 1778 in Kaprijke and d. there 25 December 1829.

x.                  Christian Van De Plassche, b. 18 March 1787, bap. 19 March 1787 and d. 30 Sep 1787.
